Grocery shopping tip...

When navigating the produce section, look for the labels stuck on your fruits and veggies:
  • A four-digit number means it's conventionally grown.
  • A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it's organic.
  • A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it's genetically modified (GM).
I'm headed out for the store this afternoon and will keep this in mind. I already knew about the "9" for organic but had no idea that an "8" means the produce is genetically modified... ick!

genetically modified doesn't necessarily mean 'bad for you.' it could mean that it was grown to repel insects, instead of a farmer using an insecticide. much healthier for you--most of the time, the alteration is done to add more to the produce, not take away. biology has learned me quite a bit...just don't ask me about cells. for some reason, i forgot them all on a quiz friday!

i know, but the corn you eat is genetically altered. if you ate the "real" corn, you'd prolly not like it!
